Aadhavan Movie Review - Not Up To The Mark

Movie Name: Aadhavan (2009)

Star Cast: Surya, Nayanthara, Murali, Vadivelu, Shiyaji Shinde, Rahul Dev, Saroja Devi

Director: K.S. Ravikumar

Music: Harris Jayaraj

Banner: Red Giant Movies

The much awaited 'Aadhavan' is finally on screens for this Diwali. But it seems that the film has not matched the expectation it had. It is the same old commercial film which Tamil cinema has been seeing so long. New elements are totally lacking in the film. Surya is been shown in a negative role from the beginning and the secret is been opened in the end. This is totally a drawback for the film. Maybe, we must say that director KS Ravikumar has tested the patients of audience.

Aadhavan is a very ordinary story about a contract killer and a sharpshooter who is proficient in killing people. Abdullah (Rahul Dev) and Aadhavan's (Surya) father Shiyaji Shinde makes a huge deal and Aadhavan has been deputed to kill a magistrate which is actor Murali. Aadhavan makes his first attempt but misses the target. The second time, he tries to kill him when he is on a holiday with his family. He enters the family with the help of Vadivelu and try to become one among them so that he can kill the magistrate with ease. But he fails again. He realizes that something destroys his plan. Then the flashback of Aadhavan is been unveiled which is the turning point in the movie.

Nayanthara totally does not suit the film. She looks old and seem like an odd pare to Surya. Saroja Devi has done her part well. An attempt of showing Surya as a ten year old boy does not seem to be a success. It totally seems to be artificial and computerized.

About the good part of the movie, the costumes are nice. The dresses used perfectly suits both Nayanthara and Surya in all songs. Surya has been constantly paying close attention in his costumes in all his movies to match the Bollywood films.

Late actor Murali has done a very good job. Shiyaji Shinde is a good actor but has been badly used. May be he must stop taking roles like this which spoils his image. Rahul Dev has done ok. Vadivelu has done his portion well.

That is all about it. There is nothing much to talk about this movie. It may do well in the boxoffice but 'Aadhavan' does not seem to deserve it.

Overall Rating: 5/10
